Bible Book Blitz

It's a rarity that this happened - but last night genius struck me at the perfect time. Well, genius may be a bit of an exaggeration - but I did have a good idea for my 3rd through 5th graders at the end of their Wednesday Evening Discipleship Program.

One thing I'm pretty passionate about is having my kids learn the books of the Bible. I learned their order in 4th grade and it has stuck with me. I'm sure many of you could hum a little ditty that you learned to help you get the books memorized.

For me, it was The Amazing Book. I loved it as a kid - and still do!
"66 books in the whole Bible, each one a special part! So I learned this song and didn't take long 'til I knew them all by heart - yeah, I knew them all by heart!"
I had the kids spread out around the room and instructed them to close their eyes and put a hand on their head when I said a book of the Bible. It was a hoot!

For a list of the books I used (both real and fake) in Bible Book Blitz - follow the jump.

Not that I doubt your ability to know which are Bible books and which arent', but just in case - I've put my real books in bold and my fake ones in italics. :)

Leviticus
Jude
Bartholomew
Jonas
Jonah
Esther
Song of Bieberus (that was a hit!)
Genesis
Palms (this was a tricky one for them)
Psalms
Chelseriah :)
Lazarus
I Chronicles
2 Kings
3 Samuel
Acts
Mileycyzerus (another one that caused uproarious laughter)
Obadiah
Jebediah
Stephen
Ezra
Lamentations
Flopians
Phillipians
Germes
Habakkuk (this was tricky for them!)
Snickerdoodleus (in honor of our snack)

I would love to hear your suggestions for some additions to the fake book list! :)

  1. I, too, am very passionate about teaching my students the books of the Bible. After all, it's the Word of God and is the basis of our faith! I've had a hard time helping my kids memorize the sixty-six books, but I'm hoping that with help from The Amazing Book's song, that task will be a little easier!
